Remembrance Sunday – We Will Remember Them
This Remembrance Sunday, across the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Ministry Area, we pause to remember.
We remember all those who gave their lives in the service of our country, those who served and returned, and those who continue to live with the physical and emotional scars of conflict. We remember the families who waited, the loved ones who grieved, and the generations whose lives have been shaped by the consequences of war.
As Anglican Christians, remembrance is more than looking back. It is an act of gratitude, a commitment to peace, and a reminder of the value of every human life. We give thanks for the courage and sacrifice of those who served, while praying for a world where conflict gives way to understanding, hatred to love, and fear to hope.
In our churches and communities, as we gather for services, wreath-laying and moments of silence, we stand together in remembrance. We also remember those suffering in conflicts around the world today, holding them in our prayers and asking God to bring comfort to the broken-hearted, protection to the vulnerable and peace to places torn apart by war.
Jesus reminds us of the greatest expression of love:
"Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends." – John 15:13
May we never take freedom, peace or the sacrifices of others for granted. May we honour the past, pray for the present and work towards a more peaceful future.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Whether you are a regular worshipper, visiting for the first time, or simply looking for a quiet moment of reflection, you will be very welcome. Together, we will remember, give thanks, pray and seek God's peace for our world.

We are delighted to welcome you to a service of Choral Evensong at St Illtud’s Church, Llantwit Major, 6:00pm as we observe our Patronal Feast of St Illtud. Illtud established a monastery, mission centre and school on the banks of the Ogney Brook about the year 490. Illtud’s school became famous throughout Britain and attracted students from far and wide. The oldest centre of learning in the country, it has been described as ‘The University of the Celtic Saints’. Countless legends surround the life of Saint Illtud, but what we know for certain is that his early teachings played a significant part in helping to bring Christianity to Britain. This ancient and sacred site is therefore the very cradle of Celtic Christianity. Today we honour the legacy of St. Illtud with the service of Evensong, a form of prayer which has been used, largely unchanged, in churches and cathedrals since 1549. Evensong combines the ancient monastic hours of Vespers and Compline into one service for use at the end of the day. We are honoured that Evensong this evening is sung by The Fountain Singers, conducted by their Musical Director Anna Cristoni-Apel.
