About Us

Stone Celtic Crosses

Croeso, Welcome, We are the Glamorgan Heritage Coast Ministry Area, a family of churches shaped by faith, history, landscape, and community, united by our deep love for God and for one another.

At the heart of all that we are and do is our relationship with God. We seek to worship Him joyfully, follow Christ faithfully, and live out the Spirit’s presence in our everyday lives. Our faith is not just something we talk about on Sundays. It is woven into our care for one another, our service to our communities, and our stewardship of the beautiful coastline and countryside we call home.

Our Ministry Area is rooted in a rich and ancient Christian heritage. Our historic church buildings have stood as places of prayer, refuge, celebration, and community for generations. They have witnessed countless baptisms, weddings, funerals, and moments of quiet grace in between. These sacred spaces are not simply monuments of the past they are living churches, filled with worship, warmth, and welcome today.

We are proud that our churches have touched wider culture and history in unique ways. St Cattwg’s Church in Llanmaes is known and loved as the setting for the wedding of Gavin and Stacey in the much-loved television series a joyful reminder that our churches are woven into the story of modern Wales as well as its past. Several of our churches have also featured on programmes such as Digging for Britain and Lost Families, highlighting the deep historical significance of this part of the Vale of Glamorgan and the stories held within our churchyards and communities.

But while we cherish our history, our focus is very much on the present and the future. We are deeply connected to the people and places of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. We love our villages, our towns, our coastline, and the diverse communities that make up this special area. We celebrate local life, walk alongside those in need, and seek to be a positive, loving presence in the places we serve.

We are an inclusive Ministry Area, and we mean that with our whole hearts. Everyone is welcome here whatever your background, story, questions, or beliefs. You do not need to “fit a certain mould” to belong with us. Whether you are exploring faith for the first time, returning after a long absence, or have been part of church life for years, there is a place for you among us.

We believe passionately in radical hospitality the kind that reflects the generous, open, and loving nature of Christ. We strive to be churches where people are greeted with warmth, listened to with care, and valued simply for who they are. Our doors, our hearts, and our tables are open.

Above all, we are a community shaped by love:
Love for God.
Love for our neighbours.
Love for our heritage.
Love for our beautiful corner of the world.

We would be delighted to welcome you whether in one of our historic buildings, at a community event, or simply in conversation. You are part of our story, and we would love to share this journey of faith with you.

Planning your Visit

New to Our Church? A Warm Welcome

We’re really glad you’re considering joining us.

If this is your first time visiting, the information below is designed to help you feel comfortable and know what to expect on any service day. Our hope is that you feel welcomed, valued, and at home among us.

Where and When

We meet in 12 different church buildings across the Vale of Glamorgan. You’ll find the full list of locations and service times on this website.

There are no rules about which church you should visit. Some people choose the church closest to where they live, while others are drawn to a particular building because of its history, beauty, or community. Wherever you decide to join us, you can be sure of a warm and friendly welcome.

What to Expect on a Sunday

Our services are mostly an Eucharist which you will find typically calm, reflective, and welcoming, with readings from the Bible, prayers, hymns or songs, and a short sermon. We offer communion which you are invited if Baptised to recieve bread and wine but we do also offer a blessing instead if you wish. If you want a blessing instead of communion then please com eup in line and just cross your hands over your chest. The style of worship may vary slightly between churches, but the sense of community and hospitality is the same across the Ministry Area.

You don’t need to dress in any particular way people attend in a wide range of clothing, from casual to more formal. Just come as you are.

If you arrive a little early, you’ll usually be greeted by a steward or member of the congregation who will be happy to help you find a seat, a service sheet, or answer any questions.

Children and Families

Children and families are very welcome in our churches. In some of our buildings there are activity sheets or quiet spaces available. If your child needs a break during the service, please feel free to step out and return when you’re ready no one will mind. We have a great programme lined up for children of all ages. Our Treasure Seekers meet in St Illtud's, Llantwit Major on the first Sunday of the month and St James, Wick & St Mary, Monknash on set days.

After the Service

In many of our churches, refreshments are served after the service. This is a lovely opportunity to meet people, ask questions, and get to know the community a little better. You’re very welcome to stay, there’s no obligation, just a friendly invitation.

Accessibility

Most of our church buildings have wheelchair access. Please note that Gileston is our only building accessed by steps only.

Audio induction loops are available in most of our church buildings for those who use hearing aids.

Facilities

Toilets are available at our buildings in Llantwit Major, Southerndown, and Ewenny.
