Southerndown
This church so small and yet so real, reminds us of His path;
That always finds a way. Here is the silence,
Here where prayer is to be found-in the daily life of those called Christians
All Saints' is now the sister church of eleven medieval churches, and yet its kudos is its
difference. Its simplicity has a charm of its own. Built of wood its inside is of oak
furniture and full of light. There is a wonderful feeling of peace, as the rays of light
illuminate all around. The grounds around the church have been laid out for quiet
contemplation, with a local biodiversity group having seeded part of the outside church
grounds with wild flowers.
The Church is a community church, with several local organisations using the hall for
their functions, from for example- Tai Chi, Mothers Union, coffee mornings to quiet away
days. The modern facilities that All Saints offers, ensures community use. These are easy
parking, disabled access, loop system, kitchen, and disabled toilet.
Our main service is every Wednesday afternoon at 3pm, its a short, welcoming but
spiritual service with tea and refreshments offered afterwards; which does foster a friendly
communal atmosphere.
History
Southerndown has been a favourite holiday resort for many years, the memoirs of Richard
Price, who advised Shelbourne and William Pitt tell of of his daily swim there. Another
well known philanthropist Henry John Randall (1877), bequeathed a trust for a charity to
support a religious service in Southerndown Reading Room- this was the building that
proceeded All Saints Church finally established in 1969.
In its simplicity, generosity, hospitality and lack of renown we follow His path
